Hi! Today we’ll be covering the first topic of blogging basics: How to come up with blog ideas.

Writing a blog may seem really fun (it actually is), but sometimes you get a case of writer’s block or feel like you’re running out of ideas. Because of this, it’s important to learn how to come up with ideas from the start, so that you don’t run into problems often.

So, here are some ways to come up with great blog ideas.

1. Keep an idea journal

Inspiration can strike at any time, and so it’s important that you be prepared for it. So, I recommend that you keep an idea journal. I recommend that you use Google Docs because it syncs with your Google account and is accessible on all devices. You don’t need to elaborate much in your journal, just jot down the basic gist and save it for later, so you can use it when you’re running low on ideas.

2. Do research

Who says you can only write about what you know? The internet is a vast place, and you can learn about whatever you want, just by searching it up. Part of the blogging experience is that you learn stuff on the way. Everything’s fine as long as you don’t plagiarize. (I’m researching while writing this blog myself)

3. Write a guide

Most people have had at least one experience in their life that they can teach people about. For me, it’s the piano, and I’ve made a blog post for that. You can write a guide for anything that you have a certain level of expertise in, be it art, cooking, playing an instrument, etc.

4. Observe trends

Using Google Trends you can see the most searched keywords on the web, and base your topics on them. This has the highest chance of amassing views, as your topic is related to whatever is most popular. However, you will have less freedom in topic choice if you pick this.

5. Tell your story

Everybody has a story, and just by writing it down, you can indirectly end up helping people who are in similar circumstances as you. Your story can be a problem you’ve faced, a funny situation you’ve been in, or even just your daily life.

I hope that this will help you in the future, and stay tuned for more posts about blogging. Coming tomorrow: How to set up a blog page.
